How to defeat the Hive Mind in Dead Space Remake (2024)

This guide will explain and show you how to defeat the Hive Mind Boss in Chapter 12 of the Dead Space Remake. This is the final boss encounter in the game!

This guide is for the Dead Space Remake, released in 2023!

If you’ve made it to this point, then you’re just about done with Dead Space! The fight with the Hive Mind is quite different from how it was in the original 2008 Dead Space so you’ll need to keep on your toes for this fight. Now let’s get started on how to defeat the Hive Mind and get off Aegis VII!

Prepare for the fight ahead

Unless you’re super confident in your abilities, then I recommend making a final trip to the store kiosk and bench to perform any last supply runs or upgrades. You should have found a good number of power nodes in Chapter 12, so you’ll be able to get some good upgrades.

Keep in mind, once you exit this room and start the cinematic this is a point of no return.

Since this is the final boss fight in the game, and it’s a decent challenge, you may want to track back a bit and collect any Power Nodes and Semiconductors you may have missed. If you need some upgrades and more credits to stock up on ammo and health packs, this is a great chance for you to do it. Plus, the Power Nodes will be helpful if you plan to replay the game in New Game Plus (NG+) mode.

How to fight the Hive Mind boss

After the cinematic plays, you can begin your fight with the Hive Mind. Aim for any of the five glowing clusters on its face to damage it. With enough damage done, each of the clusters will explode. The Hive Mind will attack you by spitting up clusters at you and swinging its tentacles at you.

Avoid the clusters as they’ll explode and strafe left or right to avoid the tentacles. So long as you’re moving in one direction when a tentacle is coming down, you’ll be able to dodge it. While doing this, keep firing at the eye clusters until all of them are blown up.

After all of the eye clusters are blown up, the Hive Mind will send Slashers your way. Deal with them as you usually would to continue the fight with the Hive Mind.

If you need supplies, now would be a good time to break open those supply crates.

After you defeat the Slashers, the Hive Mind will expose its chest clusters for you to shoot at. Open fire until one of them explodes. Get ready for a challenge as the Hive Mind has learned some new tricks when compared to its 2008 counterpart.

The Hive Mind will start to spit up lines of acid in the area. Touching this is very dangerous as it will deal lingering damage if you step into it. This leaves you with less room to dodge tentacles but you should be fine so long as you maintain movement. Dodge the tentacles and acid while firing at the chest clusters.

As the fight goes on and the Hive Mind gets more damaged, it’ll become desperate. It’ll begin to shoot multiple lines of acid in an attempt to trap you. Keep moving and firing at those chest clusters!

When all of the chest clusters are popped, the Hive Mind will pick up Isaac in an attempt to consume him. You’ll have one last cluster to blow up so aim well before you’re consumed by the Hive Mind. Since you’re upside down, aiming will be awkward especially since you will be flailed around.

After you’ve destroyed the final cluster, the Hive Mind will writhe in pain and return to the pit it came from. From here on a cinematic will play concluding Dead Space, so take this time to breathe and relax as you have just completed Dead Space! Congratulations!
