The best in global television was honored in New York on Monday night at the 2024 International Emmy Awards, with winners picked across nominees from 21 countries.
The big winners on the night were Drops of God winning best drama series, Timothy Spall winning best actor, Aokbab-Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying winning best actress, División Palermo winning best comedy and Liebes Kind winning best miniseries.
In the best drama category, Apple TV+’s French-American-Japanese manga adaptation Drops of God, produced by Legendary Television, won out against 1980s-set Australian series The Newsreader; the Amazon Prime Video Argentina espionage thriller Yosi, the Regretful Spy; and the Disney+/Hotstar series The Night Manager, an Indian adaptation of the 2016 BBC show of the same name.

British acting legend Timothy Spall went into the ceremony as favorite in the best actor category, nominated for his turn in the BBC true-crime tale The Sixth Commandment, and duly walked away with the award. He adds the International Emmy to the BAFTA TV award he won for playing Peter Farquhar in the series. Spall was up against Brazilian star Julio Andrade for Living on a Razor’s Edge, Laurent Lafitte for the French Netflix show Class Act and Haluk Bilginer for Turkish crime drama Sahsiyet.
Aokbab-Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying won best actress for her turn in the Thai drama Hunger, another Netflix original. Best actress contenders included Jessica Hynes for the BBC dramedy There She Goes, Sara Giraudeau for the French Disney+ series Tout va bien and Adriana Barraza for Netflix’s Mexican drama El Último Vagón.
In the comedy category, Argentina’s División Palermo took the prize. Distributed by Netflix, the comedy series focuses on a group of people from social minorities, who are hired to form a neighbourhood protection guard. División Palermo bested Australia’s Deadloch, South Korea’s Daily Dose of Sunshine and France’s HPI.
Indian stand-up comic and actor Vir Das, a 2023 International Emmy winner for his Netflix specialLanding, hosted this year’s awards. The Bollywood star is currently on his internationalMind Fooltour.
LupinstarOmar Sy,Picket Fences andChicago Hopeproducer Michael Pressman andJane Seymourwere among the presenters at the ceremony. Sy presented the International Emmy Directorate Award to Sidonie Dumas, CEO of French TV giant Gaumont, while veteran Hollywood showrunner David E. Kelley received his International Emmy Founders Award from Pressman, a co-executive producer of Kelley’s shows.
