As the weather cools, I love to warm up with a pumpkin spice chai latte, made with chai tea instead of coffee, infused with the warming cozy flavors of pumpkin spice.

Fall is just around the corner and you know what that means?

It’s time for Starbucks to roll out the pumpkin spice everything.

Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte

For years, I felt left out of the whole pumpkin spice craze. It seemed like everywhere I looked you could get a pumpkin spice latte made with coffee.

But what if you love tea, but coffee not so much?

Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte Starbucks

Thankfully, Starbucks listened to all their tea-loving customers and created a pumpkin spice chai latte made with chai instead of coffee.

Here’s what Starbucks has to say about their pumpkin spice chai tea latte:

Our beloved Chai joins our other fall fan favorite: Pumpkin Spice. Two flavors in one winning combination that delights and comforts as the cooler weather sets in.

Starbucks

The Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte contains

  • Milk
  • Water
  • Chai Tea Concentrate (black tea and chai spices)
  • Sugar, Honey
  • Pumpkin Spice Sauce (sugar, condensed milk, pumpkin puree)
  • Pumpkin Spice Topping (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves)

Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte Calories

A grande pumpkin spice chai tea latte from Starbucks made with 2% milk has a whopping 310 calories along with 58 grams of sugar (!).

Which brings me to another reason I love to make these popular tea drinks at home: I can control the type of milk and level of sweetness so I can still get that authentic pumpkin spice taste, without packing on the calories and sugar.

My recipe tastes just as authentic as the pumpkin spice chai latte from Starbucks and only has 141 calories.

Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea Latte Ingredients

There are only a few ingredients you need to make an authentic pumpkin spice chai latte:

  • 100% pure pumpkin puree.
  • Pumpkin pie spice
  • Brown Sugar
  • Vanilla
  • Chai tea bags
  • Any type of milk

Pumpkin Puree vs. Pumpkin Pie Mix

My recipe calls for 100% pure pumpkin puree. This puree is basically cooked pumpkin in a can, with no additional ingredients.

When you go shopping, make sure you look carefully at the label because you can also find “pumpkin pie mix” on the grocery store shelves.

This mix is full of sugar and you definitely don’t want to use it for this recipe. So make sure you look for 100% pure pumpkin on the label.

What is Pumpkin Pie Spice?

Pumpkin pie spice is a pre-made mixture of spices you’d put in pumpkin pie. Pumpkin pie spice usually consists of:

  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Ginger
  • Cloves
  • Allspice

You certainly could mix up your own blend of spices, but I like the ease of pumpkin pie spice on hand.
