If you’re anything like me, rosemary is essential in your kitchen. I love adding it to roast vegetables, lamb, and roast chicken.

It brings a lovely fragrant flavour to so many dishes and really compliments well with salt.

Rosemary salt is an easy way to store a large amount of your crop so it doesn’t go to waste each year. After all, there is only so much you can add this herb to.

What salt should you use?

A good quality salt like Kosher or sea salt is best. Sea salt is chunkier but you can place it into a food processor to make it finer. You can also mix the two together for a combined texture.

Is dried or fresh rosemary best?

Either is fine! I used dried rosemary for my salt because I don’t have a garden at the moment. We are currently in the middle of finding a home, so it’s not a priority for me right now. Fresh would be better, in my opinion, but just do what’s best for you.

If you decide to use fresh rosemary, it will need to be dried out either on a baking tray for 4-6 hours or in the oven at a low temperature for about 25 minutes.

How to make rosemary salt as a homemade gift?

You can place this rosemary salt into mason jars and tie a ribbon or some baker’s twine around the lid with a gift tag. Add a small wooden serving spoon to add a finishing touch.

Bakers twine is a really handy material to have on hand. I think it adds a lovely rustic touch to gifts, and it’s super cheap to buy.

You could put together a gift basket and include this rosemary salt, some cooking utensils and a handmade potholder for their kitchen.

What can you use this salt with?

One word, Potatoes! Crispy, baked, roasted or boiled. This rosemary salt will taste divine. You can also mix it in with some butter. Some other great pairs would be roast chicken, lamb, or even over eggs.Try sprinkling this over pumpkin before roasting when making my Thai pumpkin soup.

  • 2 Cups Sea Salt or Kosher Salt
  • 1 Cup Fresh or Dried Rosemary

Instructions

  1. Place salt into a bowl and add in the rosemary.
  2. Place onto a baking tray and bake for 20-25 minutes if using fresh rosemary.
  3. Pour into a wide mouth mason jar to store in a cool dry place or gift.
