Although introduced as an antagonist in Jujutsu Kaisen, there was more to the story of Suguru Geto, which came into the limelight in the first five episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2. The Hidden Inventory Arc features Gojo’s past and highlights his bond with Geto during one of their toughest missions. The action-packed arc also featured Megumi’s Dad, and the events at the end of it had an unprecedented outcome. They were one of the leading causes behind why Suguru Geto turned evil in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Suguru Geto became a fan favorite right from the movie, which featured the Cursed Child arc. However, his presence in the Hidden Inventory arc was a refreshment for fans as they got to see his background and understand why he turned into what he was in the movie. Gojo and Geto were poles opposite right from the beginning. While Geto was featured as the villain and Gojo the hero, the Hidden Inventory arc showed how that was not precisely true.
With all his Six Eyes powers and Infinity, Gojo was lined up to be what Geto became. In some ways, the drastic change in Geto also somewhat reasoned with Gojo to be the hero and the sensei that we have known him to be throughout the series. The death of Riko Amanai in the series is the turning point for Geto, and a few events after that force him to be the main antagonist against those who do not possess any cursed energy.
Why Suguru Geto Turned Evil in Jujutsu Kaisen?
While Riko Amanai was the main turning point, Geto was the first to accept that those without cursed energy never saw Jujutsu Sorcerors as anything but freaks. The death of Riko Amanai, the Star Plasma Vessel, was cheered on by the Star Religious Group while Gojo was taking her body back from their headquarters. The Star Religious Group, filled with non-cursed users, were the ones who initiated the hit on Riko, whom Toji Fushiguro later killed. This was the first straw, after which Geto Turned Evil In Jujutsu Kaisen or at least started walking on that path.
After the events with Riko, Suguru Geto had a conversation with Yuki Tsukumo. Yuki tells Geto that Jujutsu sorcerers do not create cursed spirits except for those who become vengeful spirits. She explains why and tells him that cursed spirits would no longer exist if every human were a sorcerer. Geto says it would also be possible if all the non-exorcists were to be killed. Unknown to Yuki at that time, this was the conversation that planted the seed of hate and racism towards non-cursed users.
The final straw was Geto’s encounter with Mimiko and Nanako Hasaba. The twins were captured, beaten, and imprisoned by some of the villagers living there as they believed that they were the cause of all the deaths in the village. Although Geto was sent there to investigate the cause of death, the treatment of the twins turned Geto’s hate more powerful as he killed all the villagers and rescued them instead. Upbringing the twins, Geto took out the Star Religious Group next and turned into the antagonist we saw in Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
While his dream to create a world full of sorcerers was noble, it could only be accomplished by turning to a path of evil and killing every non-sorcerer. Although Suguru Geto turned evil in Jujutsu Kaisen, he never actually looked to hurt anyone with cursed energy and only attacked Jujutsu High as part of his plan to get Yuta Okkotsu and the special grade vengeful cursed spirit, Rika, aka the Queen of Curses, in the series.
Suguru Geto was finally defeated by Yuta Okkutsu in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and then killed by Gojo towards the end of the arc. While we see Geto in JJK Season 1 and Season 2, it is Kenjaku, an ancient curse user who has survived for a thousand years by transplanting his brain into others. The fan-favorite Suguru Geto is dead, and Kenjaku commands the body now.

While on a mission to stop a curse from ravaging a village, Geto found out that the villagers had kept two sorcerer girls in a cage, blaming them for the curse's actions. Witnessing the cruelty of the non-sorcerers, Geto murdered 112 villagers, freed the girls, and became an evil curse user.
Geto started to deem all non-sorcerers as "monkeys" and regretted protecting them during his time at the school. After talking with Yuki Tsukumo, Yu Haibara dying in action, and murdering 112 people in a village to rescue two girls, Geto made the decision to become a curse user.
As I mentioned in this answer, one of the main reasons for Geto turning evil was her death and his following conversation with Toji. In fact, it's arguably the most important since it started the whole thing. (The anime did this scene perfectly btw, cutos to Mappa.)
His experiences as a jujutsu sorcerer bred a deep hatred for non-sorcerers, leading to an incident where Suguru massacred over a hundred civilians in a single night. He was expelled from Jujutsu High and came to be known as the worst of all curse users.
Suguru Geto ( 夏 げ 油 とう 傑 すぐる , Getō Suguru?): After Suguru Geto's defeat at the hands of Yuta Okkotsu, Kenjaku transplanted his brain with his innate technique into Suguru's body and has taken Geto as his host body, effectively giving Kenjaku access to all of Geto's memories, skills, and jujutsu.
With the reveal that the original Geto dies in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and the one from the main series is another man possessing his body, Akutami has said the body memory from one of his arms when Gojo sees him hints that the original Geto is still fighting against Kenjaku.
In Geto's eyes, Gojo finally achieves a level so high that no other modern jujutsu sorcerer can even come close to him, including Geto himself. Sure, Geto is happy for his best friend, but at this point, he realizes that Gojo no longer needs any support from him or from any other jujutsu sorcerer for that matter.
Geto is still alive in the Jujutsu Kaisen anime because he is not actually Geto, but an ancient sorcerer named Kenjaku who implants his brain into others' bodies. Kenjaku is the true antagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen and his goal is to fuse everyone in Japan into a massive cursed spirit.
The anime confirmed the presence of an entity named Kenjaku, who had taken control of Geto's body. This revelation caught Gojo off guard, allowing Geto's trap to ensnare him.
Sukuna was successfully able to infuse his Cursed Energy into this Cleave attack and cut up Gojo for good. This technique was so powerful that it completely bisected his body.
Geto is forced to retreat and thinks about how he must obtain Rika next time. Geto encounters Gojo, and the two start to chat when Geto returns Yuta's student ID. Geto is killed by Gojo. After this, Gojo chooses not to have Geto's body taken in by Jujutsu High.
The two seemingly unassuming girls, Nanako and Mimiko Hasaba, who were introduced as mere lackeys of Geto Suguru in the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie got their integral role in the storyline. Adopted by Geto Suguru, these twins were rescued from a grim fate during a mission in a remote village.
Due to Gojo's newfound strength, he began being sent out on more and more missions alone, leaving Geto to feel alienated and unsure of himself in the process. Gojo was always the one that forced Geto out of his shell, so without him around, Geto retreated further into his own head.
In 2017, after Suguru Geto's defeat at the hands of Yuta Okkotsu, Kenjaku transplanted his brain with his innate technique into Suguru's body and has taken Geto as his host body, effectively giving Kenjaku access to all of Geto's memories, skills, and jujutsu.
After his fight with Toji, Geto was unable to find meaning in being a Jujutsu Sorcerer and continuing to protect the weak. He saw the ugliness of humans as they celebrated the death of Riko Amanai, a 14-year-old girl who he alongside Gojo failed to protect. Thus, Suguru Geto's mental decline started.
