Special Recycling
There are many items that you can't recycle by putting them into your blue bin. They have special recycling instructions and drop-off places.
Batteries
Batteries may contain harmful chemicals that can’t be put into landfills, so it’s important to recycle them properly. ACE Disposal & Recycling accepts all kinds of batteries, including:
- Alkaline
- Lithium-ion
- Rechargeable
- Car batteries
To recycle your batteries, simply drop them off at one of our electronic waste collection sites. Visit the Utah Recycling Alliance website for hard to recycle materials.
How to Recycle
Computers & Electronics
Electronics contain materials that can be reused and recycled, but they should never be thrown in the trash. ACE Disposal & Recycling accepts all kinds of electronics for recycling, including:

- Printers
- TVs
- Cellphones

How to Recycle
Chemicals
Household chemicals, such as cleaners, paints, and pesticides, should never be thrown away in your regular trash or recycling bin. They can contaminate the environment and harm waste workers. ACE Disposal & Recycling offers a hazardous waste collection program to safely dispose of these items.

Plastic Bags
Plastic bags and other plastic film items, such as bubble wrap and grocery bags, can’t be recycled through your regular recycling bin. Instead, call or visit the Utah Recycling Alliance website for more information.

How Recycling Works
1. Collection
ACE Recycling & Disposal collects recycling for various cities in Utah. On the day your neighborhood is assigned recycling, our trucks pick up recycling from the curb.
2. Drop-Off
ACE Recycling & Disposal drops off recyclables at a local Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). The MRF sorts and bales your recyclables by material type.
3. Reuse
The Materials Recovery Facility will sell the bales to both national and international recyclers who turn the recyclables into new products.

Is Recycling Still Worth It?
Yes! Your plastic bottles, metal cans, paper, and cardboard are still valuable materials. The recycling industry has gone through downs like this before and it will rebound, just like it has in the past. New facilities and technologies will emerge domestically that will be able to handle the material we can no longer export. This is not the end of recycling, but it does mean we need to work harder to make sure everything we put in our recycling bin is clean and correct.
Recycling continues to be one of the most sustainable ways to reduce waste and protect our environment. By keeping valuable materials out of landfills, we conserve natural resources, reduce pollution, and save energy.

Recycling Guide
Office Paper
Office paper is the best kind of paper to be recycled. Please keep in mind that staples and minimal paper clips are okay! It is important to remove binder clips and excessive paper clips as they cannot be recycled. However, they can be removed and reused.
Recycling at the office not only helps reduce waste, but it also shows your commitment to sustainability and sets a good example for others in your workplace. By properly recycling office paper, you can help decrease the demand for logging and save valuable natural resources.
Cardboard
Cardboard recycling is a great program for businesses that generate cardboard waste on a regular basis. If you are not sure your business would benefit from a cardboard recycling program, give us a call and an account representative will come out and evaluate your trash and recycling needs. This service is available using compactors, front-load, and roll-off containers and the material will be taken to a certified recycling processor.
In most cases recycling cardboard is a fairly easy process. However, there are a few reasons that a cardboard container cannot be recycled. Cardboard from pizza boxes and other food containers can be contaminated with grease, decreasing the quality of the paper fibers. Aseptic cartons, such as soy milk cartons, cannot be recycled because the container is composed of multiple materials, not just cardboard.
Steel & Aluminum Cans
Steel and aluminum are some of the most unique recycling products on the market. They can be used, recycled, and reused an infinite number of times. That is why this product goes “in the bin”! Please make sure your cans are empty to avoid contamination issues. Steel and aluminum cans can be recycled curbside in many areas. You can also bring them to one of our drop-off locations or schedule a pick-up for large quantities.
Plastic Jugs
Plastic jugs are a very versatile, reusable product. When your plastic jugs can no longer be of use, they can be recycled. Make sure your jugs are empty so they do not contaminate the recycling load. Keep in mind that labels and lids can stay on! Plastic jugs can be recycled curbside or brought to one of our drop-off locations. At the recycling facility, they will be sorted and mixed with other plastics to be turned into new products.
Envelopes
Envelopes with plastic windows can be recycled. The paper from these envelopes is the exact type of material that is perfect for recycling. The plastic in the window CAN be recycled and will not need to be removed before “throwing it in the blue bin.” While recycling envelopes may seem like a small gesture, it does help reduce waste and promote sustainability. Every envelope that is recycled is one less item sent to the landfill.
Glass
Glass is 100% recyclable and can be recycled repeatedly without loss in quality or purity. However, not all glass is created equally. Glass bottles and jars can be recycled curbside in many areas and brought to our drop-off locations for processing. However, items such as light bulbs, mirrors, and window glass cannot be recycled with regular household recycling. These types of glass are often made from different materials that cannot be mixed with traditional glass products. It is important to properly dispose of these items and not mix them in with your household recycling.

Metal
ACE Recycling & Disposal can help you recycle all of your metal scrap products. The metals are very useful and versatile. Metal can be recycled again and again without changing its properties. Some suggestions for recycling include old appliances, metal furniture, filing cabinets, and electronics. You can bring these items to one of our drop-off locations or schedule a pick-up for large quantities. We also have special events throughout the year where we collect various types of metals for recycling.

Aerosol Cans
You can recycle aerosol cans, but they must be VERY EMPTY to be recycled. Be sure to remove the plastic cap before recycling. Place the empty cans in your curbside recycling bin or bring them to one of our drop-off locations. Aerosol cans that contain toxic chemicals cannot be recycled and should be disposed of properly at a designated hazardous waste facility. By recycling aerosol cans correctly, we can reduce waste and prevent harmful chemicals from entering our environment.
Wood
A large portion of wood waste is generated from demolition and construction companies. ACE Recycling & Disposal is conscious of the amount of space used wood takes up in landfills. We encourage all of our customers to consider recycling wood. We have a wood grinder and can take your scrap lumber to be used as fuel in cogeneration plants. This turns waste into renewable energy, helping reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. By recycling wood, we can also prevent it from decomposing and producing methane gas, a major contributor to climate change.

How Did Recycling Change?
China, which has historically taken most of the U.S. recyclable exports, began to enforce stricter importing regulations for recyclable materials and not accept some materials altogether.
This has caused MRFs to use more resources in order to meet the stricter standards set by China and to look for other places to sell the recyclables to, both domestically and overseas. Consequently, prices of processing the materials have drastically increased. The focus has shifted from recycling more to recycling better.

Don't Recycle These
There are also many items that you cannot recycle. Usually, it is because they are made of multiple materials that cannot be separated from each other or they require special recycling methods. Be sure to check your local regulations to find the right place to recycle or dispose of these materials.
